At the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile at the edge of the wine route, visitors find the large impressive house “Folie Marco”. The building itself and the collections invite visitors to learn more about life in Alsace. When Louis Félix Marco, a lawyer and “Landvogt” (bailiff) had the villa built in 1760 to 1763 right outside the city, people regarded the house as a folly, a crazy building . At the end of his life, Marco was on the verge of bankruptcy. Later, the house was emptied and only the important elements of the interior decoration remained intact. The last owners, the brothers Henri and Gustave Schwartz, re-furnished the house and bequeathed it to their hometown. This is the story of the “Folie Marco” which serves as museum of domestic culture from the 17th to the 19th century, from the Renaissance to the Empire and the Restoration.
