NGiB lecture: Small treasures - what microfossils tell us about the past

German
The term microfossils refers to the smallest fossils (smaller than 1 mm). Despite their size, these fossils are essential for research into the past - especially for the reconstruction of the palaeoenvironment and palaeoclimate. The dynamic composition of taxa assemblages shows how these sensitive organisms reacted to changes in their habitat. At the same time, geochemical analyses of fossil shells allow reconstructions of environmental factors such as water temperature. Immerse yourself with me in a world that is otherwise only visible under the microscope.

The lecture program of the Natural History Society in Basel (NGiB) conveys scientific research in all its disciplines. Find out more about the passions of amateur naturalists and famous scientists.

The lecture series takes place once a month during the university semester.
