For a year, the Verdun Memorial welcomed artist-in-residence Thibault Lucas. In the course of his encounters and peregrinations on the battlefield, he immersed himself in the atmosphere of this emblematic site.
Particularly inspired by his immersion in the mutilated landscapes and the traces left by the conflict on the ground, the artist has created original works exploring the links between nature, history and memory.
The "de terre" exhibition is the culmination of the research and experimentation carried out by Thibault Lucas during his residency. Expressing himself through a wide variety of media, the artist presents paintings, sculptures and videos that bear witness to his reflections. Especially for the Memorial, he has also designed immersive installations based on elements collected in the field.
By sensitively questioning the porous boundaries between what disappears and what remains, between what lives and what dies, the "de terre" exhibition illustrates what happens when art meets the history of the Verdun battlefield.
