The Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen are celebrating the 300th birthday of Elector Carl Theodor with a special exhibition. The show "An elector on course for the future" sheds light on some hitherto little-noticed facets of the birthday boy. It shows how surprisingly innovative the culturally and scientifically enthusiastic regent was. In this small but exquisite presentation, visitors can admire precious objects from Carl Theodor's time, some of which are being shown for the first time.
When Carl Theodor was born near Brussels on December 10, 1724, nobody could have guessed that he would rise to become the ruler of seven countries at a young age and leave his personal mark on them. At the beginning of 1743, he succeeded Carl Philipp as Elector Palatine and the Bavarian Wittelsbachs in Munich in 1778.
The small but fine exhibition can be seen from 6.12.2024 to 25.5.2025 in the Treasury of the Museum Zeughaus, Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen Mannheim.
An exhibition in collaboration with the Carl Theodor Professorship for the History of the Early Modern Period, Historical Institute of the University of Mannheim.
