From October 6, 2024 to April 6, 2025, the Musée Würth d'Erstein invites you to discover La Bibliothèque Fantastique.
La Bibliothèque Fantastique unveils an impressive variety of illustrated books, poetry, artists' books, pop-ups and object books, in dialogue with paintings, lithographs and sculptures. It highlights the inspiring work of some forty artists who have reinvented the book, elevating it to the status of a work of art. The tour begins with works combining painting and writing, by figures such as Anselm Kiefer and A.R. Penck.
Other artists such as Susanne Egle and Günter Grass explore the "book" medium, using materials as varied as stoneware, terracotta and lead. In the digital age, these creations highlight the form and materiality of the book. The exhibition continues with an exceptional collection of artists' books. Painted, illustrated, with or without text, produced alone or in collaboration, small or large format, one-off or mass-produced, artists' books are embodied here in works by Jean (Hans) Arp, Pierre Alechinsky and Andy Warhol.

La Bibliothèque Fantastique évoque aussi l’illustration avec la présentation d’originaux, de Tomi Ungerer ou du mexicain Francisco Toledo, qui raviront les plus jeunes et éveilleront les souvenirs d’écoliers des autres.
