Bitumen and silver - two materials extracted deep from the earth. While they are mostly used industrially, in Heidi Gerullis' art they serve as creative elements. In her pictorial compositions, they appear as opponents - or rather as partnering opponents.
The compact black, opaque mass is juxtaposed with the wafer-thin, shiny silver leaf. They enter into a dialog, perhaps even a competition between the elements. As in a game of chess, the winner changes - sometimes black dominates, sometimes white. But there is no ultimate winner in this game of strength: both meet at eye level and develop their full expressive power together.
