Alchemy or pact with the devil? The Faust-Museum at Knittlingen: between myth and history

Faust - with the sound of this name there is suddenly the link and the association to the devil, Mephisto. But where does it derive, this world-known myth, story about a scientist who dealt with the evil? The facts that there HAS been a historic figure named Georg Johann Faust, born at Knittlingen in the South West of Germany and that actually his life and aspiration, but particularly his death aroused the legend of Faust to inspire Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to his immortal Faust as well as many other poets and artists before and after til now to faustian creations- all these aspects are little known. But all these facets, the history of origin, development, main themes, characters and authors of the faustian legend can be experienced at the Faust-Museum at Knittlingen.
