Since its opening, the Galerie Poirel has been a place providing all the conditions of light and space required by both public and artists. In 1894, the École de Nancy saw it as an ideal venue for its founding exhibition on the Art Nouveau movement of Nancy. The inhabitants of Lorraine discovered the great Surrealists there in 1926, then from 1935 to 1950 the Corbin collection of decorative art, which laid the foundation for the Museum of the École de Nancy, established in 1964.
