The barn of the historical farm right behind the “Stapflehus“ at the Altweiler Lindenplatz is more than 200 years old. Tonio Paßlick collected more than 200 historical artefacts from barns and farms of the region of Weil am Rhein to present an exhibition about the working conditions of the past, which determined the everyday life of more than 90 per cent of the population in Weil until around 1900. The exhibits describe daily chores such as preparing the carriages for the nobility or the traditional wheel barrow “Schürki-Karre” of the market traders, flax breaking, sorting the wheat from the chaff and other professions. The museum also displays a threshing floor with historical tools and equipment. Large-scale photos of farmers at work at the turn of the century complement the exhibition. A highlight is the collection of 50 enamel agricultural advertising signs from bygone times.
