The Musée d'Histoire Naturelle et d'Ethnographie de Colmar was founded in 1859 by a society owning zoological and geological collections and almost 2,000 non-European objects, brought back between 1845 and 1930, representing the five continents.
Managed by an association developing contacts with national, German and Swiss museums, this "Musée de France" focuses its activities on Environmental Education and the dissemination of science to a wide public, thanks to a series of varied activities (temporary exhibitions, conferences, field trips, workshops for adults and teenagers, quarterly liaison leaflet, annual scientific publication).

Scientific library with more than 30'000 volumes open to the public on thurdays, as well as on demand
