Upper Rhine Exhibition of Carnival Fools

Carnival takes place between Epiphany and Ash Wednesday in the Swabian-Alemanian region. Yet who has the time to learn about carnival in South West Germany during the crazy Carnival days?
The exhibition invites guests all year long to explore the Alemanian Carnival! The Upper Rhine Exhibition of Carnival Fools is located in a remarkable building in the historical Üsenberg district of Kenzingen, which was founded in 1249. More than 300 carnival figures in their traditional costumes and beautifully carved masks are displayed on five floors.

A permanent exhibition presents detailed insight into particular customs at the carnivals in Tirolia and Basel. The collection is complemented by carnival awards, emblems and artefacts. The museum shop offers a range of books, masks and emblems and the restaurant “Hockstüble” invites visitors to enjoy a glass of fine wine.
