Since February 2018 the history of Lahr can be found in three museum facilities: The clay oven factory, the Roman plant and the stork tower.
In the new city museum in the clay kiln factory directly in the city centre you can meet the history of the city in a modern and interactive way. Interested visitors can approach archaeologically important finds, experience the development of the city and learn about the history of industry and the garrison. Numerous interactive stations, modern exhibition design and a wide range of programmes invite visitors* of all ages to explore Lahr's city history and let themselves be surprised. The museum is completely barrier-free.
It will be exciting to experiment on the Roman complex: on the basis of numerous archaeological finds, a strip house with an archaeobotanical garden was reconstructed as part of the State Garden Show 2018. Here young and old can experience with all their senses how the Romans lived in their settlements (Latin: vicus). The Roman complex can be visited until 14 October as part of the Lahr State Garden Show.
From 15 October 2018, the official museum programme will start with guided tours, hands-on programmes, workshops and other activities. The complex is currently only partially barrier-free.
The stork tower, the landmark of the city, is the oldest building. Here you can experience up close what the beginnings of the city looked like. A special exhibition on the elaborate renovation of the tower can currently be seen there. The stork tower is not barrier-free.
