The Musée de l'Image Populaire - François Lotz is offering a creative workshop for children, inviting the youngest to discover the art of collage through a fun and natural activity: making tree leaf collages inspired by the artist Marcel Werderer. This unique workshop allows children to develop their artistic sense while reconnecting with nature.

This workshop is part of the exhibition "L'Alsace en images. The François Lotz collection on show".

Discovering Nature and Art
The workshop begins with an outing around the museum, where children are invited to pick leaves from trees of different sizes, shapes and colors. This step is essential to make them aware of the diversity of natural textures and nuances, while teaching them to respect the environment while picking. They become little explorers, carefully observing the trees and plants around them.

Pressing: Preparing materials
Once the harvesting is complete, the children take their finds back to the museum, where a new stage in the process begins: the pressing of the leaves. This centuries-old technique dries and flattens the leaves, while preserving their delicate structure. Children learn patience here, as it's important to give the leaves time to dry properly so that they're ready for the next stage.

Cutting and assembling: the art of collage
When the sheets are ready, the young artists move on to cutting, guided by Carole Michel-Merckling. Children are invited to cut and assemble their sheets, letting their imaginations run wild. Whether they're creating landscapes or abstract motifs, everyone develops their own interpretation of nature.

The "Collages de Feuilles d'Arbres à la manière de Werderer" workshop is an enriching experience for children, combining nature and art in an original way. Each participant leaves the workshop with a unique work of art, the memory of an artistic adventure and a new appreciation of the beauty hidden in the trees that surround them. An ideal opportunity to awaken creativity while raising youngsters' awareness of art and ecology.
