The Salmen is a contemporary witness and cultural monument of national importance. It has an ambivalent history: built as a festival hall, it became famous as a place of revolution with the proclamation of the 13 demands of the people on September 12, 1847, later used as a synagogue by the Jewish community of Offenburg until the National Socialists desecrated it during the Reichspogromnacht in November 1938.

Our permanent exhibition takes you through the eventful history of the building, but also shows how it relates to our present day and our understanding of democracy today. This guided tour takes you through the permanent exhibition and also provides insights into the history of the building.
