Themed tour
The majority of the people living here in Roman times had Celtic roots. An impressive testimony to this migration to the right bank of the Rhine mentioned by the writer Tacitus is provided by the funerary inscription of medieval Romans from Meimsheim.
Particularly with regard to the world of the deities worshipped here, however, it also becomes clear how many originally Celtic influences were absorbed into the local Gallo-Roman culture.
Where did more traditional Roman elements remain and how many Celtic elements merged into Gallo-Roman culture?
