In 1499, the Swabian War raged in the Fricktal. Entire villages were burned and plundered by Confederate troops. The Fricktal, which formerly belonged to Habsburg, lay on the border at that time in the middle of the conflict area.
More than half a millennium later, archaeological finds bear witness to the troubled times in the Fricktal. The objects on display come from the late medieval fire layers that have been excavated since the 1980s.
The finds show the surprisingly high standard of the rural way of life, which can still be admired today, especially through the high quality stove tiles.
The traveling exhibition is visiting more than 20 Fricktal communities this year. From November 18, 2024 to December 15, 2024, the joint project of the Fricktalisch-Badische Vereinigung für Heimatkunde and the Kantonsarchäologie Aargau will make a stop at the Fricktaler Museum.
