Every two years, the Freundeskreis of the Kunstmuseum donates the Holzschnitt-Förderpreis (Woodcut Sponsorship Prize) to young artists who show promise in their work with the medium woodcut.
Elisa Lohmüller and Daniel von Alkier receive the 5th Woodcut Sponsorship Price 2025. This announcement comes with a surprise: For the first time, the prize will be awarded in full to two artists rather than one.
Elisa Lohmüller starts from the idea of the imprint and understands cutting into wood as a relief and physical trace. In doing so, she transforms objects that are exposed to pressure into two-dimensional designs. Daniel von Alkier has used printmaking in a narrative and veduta-like manner. In stamp-like collages, he develops the print as a space-filling object. Both prize winners are currently studying at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design.
