Several million collection objects are housed in the stacks of the Karlsruhe Natural History Museum. They document the diversity of life on earth - and how it changes over time.
The foundation stone for the collections was laid by Margravine Karoline Luise von Baden (1723-1783) with her natural history cabinet, which she expanded between 1752 and 1783 into an important scientific collection. At the beginning of the 20th century, the collection was divided into a display collection for the presentation of selected objects and scientific collections in which the objects are safely stored for research purposes.
The exhibition brings selected objects from the botany, mycology, zoology, entomology, palaeontology and geology collections to light and focuses on surprising connections between the objects in unexpected assemblies.
