Treasury building file
The Karlsruhe City Archive displays a wide selection of architectural plans from historical building files in the City Museum in the Prinz-Max-Palais. The contemporary paper witnesses convey an impression of the former appearance of the fan-shaped city.
The exhibition enables comparisons between the past and present, shows the different uses over the decades, gives the residents of the buildings a voice and tells their very personal stories. An outlook focuses on the destruction of the Second World War, the clearing of rubble and the arduous reconstruction of Karlsruhe.
In addition to original plans and historical photographs of residential and commercial buildings, villas, public buildings, craft businesses and factories, models and multimedia offerings encourage visitors to learn more about Karlsruhe's varied architectural history.
Young and old architecture enthusiasts alike have the opportunity to help shape the exhibition with their own photographs or drawings of their favorite Karlsruhe building or to work like a restorer with damaged building plans.
