1300 years of the Benedictine monastery of Gengenbach
The Benedictine monastery in Gengenbach was a center of intellectual life, education and culture whose influence can still be felt today. One outstanding example is the Gengenbach Gospels, a manuscript from 1150 that survived the war and is now kept in the Württemberg State Library. The exhibition presents the Gospels together with works by artists such as Father Anselm Grün, photographer Barbara Klemm, Luc Simon and several other artists. The Passion Carpets from the 17th century, which are an important treasure of Upper Rhine textile art, are also on display. The exhibition is complemented by a sixth painting and 15 overpaintings by Arnulf Rainer, which form a further highlight.
