Under the title "Modern Feelings", the show presents photographs from 1975 to 1985 by Ingolf Thiel. Born in Gdansk in 1943 and died in Stuttgart in 1985, Thiel was one of the most innovative photographers in Germany around 1980. The joy of working across genres that characterized those years also constantly drove Thiel. With curiosity and enthusiasm, he tried out different things and made them useful for his photographic work. He worked for industrial and fashion companies such as Daimler-Benz, Kodak, Bleyle, Breuninger and Mustang. His photographs appeared in magazines such as Elle, Gala, Linea Italiana, Nora and Playboy. At the same time, and with increasing success, he also produced freelance work. What is surprising and fascinating is the astonishing convergence of canon of motifs, aesthetics, stylistic devices and techniques in his applied and free photographs, equally condensed expression and reflection of the zeitgeist.
The exhibition is being organized in cooperation with the Deutsche Fotothek in the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB), which has been the custodian of the artist's estate since 2017.
