In view of the challenges of the present, we are experiencing a renewed longing for recreation in the countryside. But is the current enthusiasm for the outdoors also echoed in art? Can we even speak of a comeback of the romantic passion for the landscape as a point of reflection and contemplation? And is it still possible for us today to find peace in front of a landscape painting?
These questions are the starting points for the exhibition. However, the show with works by nine artists does not claim to provide answers. Instead, it invites the public to use the presentation as a space for reflection. To this end, photographs, paintings and videos are brought together that deal with natural spaces as a pictorial motif in different ways. Romantic motifs of vastness, emptiness and loneliness are recurring. The generally deserted, mostly rather gloomy, sometimes melancholy works invite the viewer to focus entirely on artistic strategies in dealing with depictions of nature.
