Black Forest clocks with game and hunting motifs
The Kloster Museum St. Märgen invites visitors to go "stalking" in a new special exhibition. The exhibition organizers draw attention to the special world of motifs relating to game, forest and hunting, which adorned the clock plates of old Black Forest clocks alongside the well-known floral motifs. The clock plate painters of the Black Forest tell us about tranquil landscapes, forest scenes with stags, deer, foxes and hares, hunters and poachers, hunting luck and hunting misfortune.

All the common types of clocks that have been made throughout the history of Black Forest clocks, from the traditional lacquered shield clock to the frame and porcelain shield clock and the carved clocks, always feature landscape, game and hunting motifs in their shield decorations alongside floral motifs. The famous Black Forest cuckoo clock in particular, richly decorated with oak and vine leaf carvings, fir trees and all kinds of forest animals, even became the epitome and advertising medium for the Black Forest.
