Hardly any other photographer documented life in Karlsruhe as extensively and in such a multifaceted way as Horst Schlesiger (1925-1993). For four decades, from 1950 to 1990, he worked as a freelance photojournalist for the "Badische Neueste Nachrichten" newspaper. During this long period, he was out and about in Karlsruhe with his camera almost every day. With around 70,000 published photographs, he accompanied and shaped the local reporting of the "BNN" in particular.
To mark the 100th birthday of Horst Schlesiger, the Stadtmuseum im Prinz-Max-Palais is presenting a special exhibition from March 29, 2025 entitled "Scenes of a city. The Karlsruhe photographer Horst Schlesiger" from 29 March 2025, which will provide comprehensive and diverse insights into his work. The photographs reflect the public, political and social life of the city, but also the everyday life, leisure and working world of the people who are made visible here in a special way. Atmospheric nature and landscape shots, architectural photographs and pictures with unusual perspectives, reflections or the play of light and shadow complete the selection.
