Located in the city's old slaughterhouse (1587) since 1920, the Historical Museum's intent is to evoke the city's urban, as well as its political, economic, social and cultural history. Its rich collections trace the thread of time: models of 1727 depicting the city and its campaign to 1/600 scale, paintings and graphic arts, military weapons and uniforms, objects from daily life. Alongside the grand pages of history and its great leaders such as General Kléber, we also find evidence of the life of ordinary citizens (costumes, furniture, etc.) and archeological collections allowing us to retrace centuries of life in Strasbourg. The first chapter was completed in June 2007 with a new museography presenting Strasbourg's history from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution. The second chapter, a work-in-progress, will continue an overview of history up until the 21st century.
