Guided tour by the curator and art historian Professor Chris Gerbing
The Matthäuskirche by architect Egon Eiermann is one of the outstanding and pioneering sacred buildings of the post-war period. The transparency (diaphanous) of the wall, which we usually associate with Gothic architecture, is given a new expression here with the materials concrete and thick glass. The designer and glass artist Hans Theo Baumann was an important source of inspiration and design for the church.
Chris Gerbing will explain the church building and its history; in 2013 she published the art guide "Glowing Walls in Concrete".
Registration is required for the excursion to Pforzheim at museum@schopfheim.de, the price is subject to change and depends on the number of participants.
