The focus will be on Ernst Stückelberg's monumental painting, in which around 1875 antique still life and modern portrait, landscape painting and architecture found a harmonious unity characterized by a yearning for Italy. "Sub noctem sussurri" is a motto chosen from the Roman poet Horace: "And at night, love whispers softly". Four niche figures brought to life in color, which enter into a dialogue with the stone cathedral figures in the Klingental, depict virtues in natural size and are dedicated to the women in Stückelberg's life. From 1880 to 1882, the painter decorated the Tell Chapel on Lake Uri with a cycle of paintings that brought him national fame.
