In the spring of 1913, Marguerite Mespoulet and Madeleine Mignon, respectively agrégée in English and agrégée in mathematics, set off on a mission to Ireland for Archives de la Planète. They brought back seventy-three autochromes, showing Ireland in color for the first time. Marguerite Mespoulet's travel diary accompanies these visual representations of traditional activities, homes and costumes, as well as famous historic sites. Together, text and images paint a sensitive portrait of Ireland, its history and its people, at a time of major political upheaval for the country's future.
