In connection with the temporary exhibition "de terre: voyage d'un artiste au cœur du champ de bataille" by artist Thibault Lucas, presented in 2025 at the Mémorial de Verdun, the Conseil d'Orientation Scientifique du Mémorial is organizing a study day on April 3, 2025, devoted to The Battle of Verdun as seen from the ground: a physical, military and symbolic approach.

The approach will take into account the different statuses of the terrain: military, pedological, geographical, historical and memorial. Eyewitness accounts from combatants, historical field studies and the impact of current pollution will be at the heart of the study day.

Study day under the direction of François Cochet, Professor Emeritus, Contemporary History, Université de Lorraine-Metz, Chairman of the Conseil d'Orientation Scientifique du Mémorial de Verdun.

With historians and specialists Jean-Paul Amat, Nicolas Czubak, Alain Devos, Christophe Gué, Daniel Hubé, Rémi de Matos-Machado.
