The Vogel Gryff in the Kleiner Klingental and the tradition of the Kleinbasel Day of Honor

The Vogel Gryff in the Museum Kleines Klingental dates from the second half of the 17th century and was in use until 1947. It is a deposit of the Three Honorary Societies of Kleinbasel and was restored in 1992. The "Vogel Gryff" is the most important feast day in Kleinbasel. The origins of the custom of the three badges of honor "Vogel Gryff", "Wild Maa" and "Leu" date back to the Middle Ages. Every year, the "Wild Maa" travels down the Rhine on a raft, lands at the Kleiner Klingental and meets the other two animals here, watched by a large crowd of spectators.
