Can the complex narrative structures of a large-format Dix painting be experienced digitally? What possibilities does the digital display open up for the presentation of a conceptual artwork by Josephine Meckseper?
As part of the four-year research project "From Work to Display", the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and the Kunsthalle Mannheim are jointly exploring the question of how the digital (re-)presentation of a work of art can be derived from its own specific form. Episodes are created from 23 works of art from both museum collections, which deliberately dispense with the established model of illustration and brief description and pursue new, experimental approaches for the digital space. A direct comparison between the original and the digital translation is possible in the museums' collection presentations.
