Hermann Daur has often been described as the first painter to set up his studio in the Markgräflerland (in Ötlingen) and to choose the landscape of the region as a main motif in his work. He trained as a master student of Hans Thomas at the Grand Ducal Baden Academy of Art in Karlsruhe, and his artistic vision was significantly influenced by Art Nouveau. In addition to his paintings, he also achieved great popularity with his graphic art. As a curator, he was involved in the Kandern local history museum. After his early death in 1925, the Lörrach Museum of Local History was able to acquire his artistic estate with support from the entire region.
To mark the 100th anniversary of his death, museums in Ötlingen, Weil am Rhein, Müllheim i.M., Kandern and Lörrach are showing exhibitions with different focal points and offering a variety of events throughout 2025.
