This open-air photographic exhibition plunges you into the unique history of oil production in Northern Alsace. All along the route through the streets of Merkwiller and neighboring towns, some fifteen tarpaulins with over sixty old photographs evoke the locations of sites that still exist or have been erased.
These images are a reminder of the extraordinary development of this unique mining operation in France.
This exhibition complements the pictures displayed around the Carreau Clemenceau, a site where liquid crude oil was recovered from mine galleries from 1917 onwards.
15 tarpaulins with more than 60 photos to take you back in time to the astonishing exploitation of oil and bring to life an industrial world unique in France!
