Conference - meeting
With Esther Garel, senior lecturer in Coptic papyrology, language and archaeology (Unistra) and Maxime Thérond, PhD in Ancient Sciences. As part of the "En attendant le musée" cycle, in partnership with the ARCHIMEDE laboratory (UMR 7044).

Champollion deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphs, thanks in particular to his knowledge of Coptic, the heir language of ancient Egyptian. It was spoken until after Egypt became part of the Arab empire. It was also written, serving as a literary and liturgical language for Egyptian Christians, as well as for the drafting of civil documents. For this two-part conference, Esther Garel's paper is entitled "Que reste-t-il de l'égyptien? Culture écrite en copte dans l'Égypte tardo-antique et médiévale", and Maxime Thérond's: "La collection de textes coptes de la Bnu, histoire et pièces remarquables".
